Like any other night, I was putting our kids to bed. Our (then) 7-year old, amply fed, began complaining of hunger. Instantly I visualized a mother putting her child to bed with these same complaints. But her kid’s cries were real and she had nothing to give. My heart broke.
2) Describe your Community Initiative Project.
Souper Heroes, whose mission is to have fun with food and community while providing for those who don’t have enough of either, was born. Four seasons and over 36 events later, with one Donation Slow Cooker, we’ve collected enough to provide over 80K meals through Columbus’ hunger relief system organizations.
3) What is your goal for this project?
Season 5 will focus on growth–not through our Donation Slow Cooker–but by empowering people to become Souper Heroes themselves. Our goal will be to expand the program by helping others learn how to throw an event using our method and create more Donation Slow Cookers throughout the city.
4) How much money do you need and what will you use it for?
This grant will be used two ways: One, to create the digital assets we’ll need to connect with potential Souper Heroes and empower at least five of them to execute an event in Season 5. Two, create a Soup Swag revenue stream allowing us to use those earnings to continue to inspire and empower people to become Souper Heroes with us.
